Yom Kippur is observed on the tenth day of the Ten Days of Awe. It also closes out and seals the Ten Days of Awe also known as the Ten Days of Repentance. Yom Kippur takes place on 10 Tishrei 5786 in the Hebrew Calendar. It starts at sundown on Wednesday, October 1st, and ends at nightfall on Thursday, October 2nd.

Yom Kippur, also known as “The Day of Atonement,” is referenced in Leviticus 23:26-32, and is considered to be the holiest day of the year.

The Day of Atonement

26 The Lord said to Moses, 27 “The tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement. Hold a sacred assembly and deny yourselves and present a food offering to the Lord. 28 Do not do any work on that day, because it is the Day of Atonement, when atonement is made for you before the Lord your God. 29 Those who do not deny themselves on that day must be cut off from their people. 30 I will destroy from among their people anyone who does any work on that day. 31 You shall do no work at all. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come, wherever you live. 32 It is a day of sabbath rest for you, and you must deny yourselves. From the evening of the ninth day of the month until the following evening you are to observe your sabbath.”

Leviticus 23:26-32

In Hebrew, the word “Kippur” means to “cover,” which is exactly what the blood of Yeshua does for you and me. His blood “covers” our sins and has made way for a restored relationship between mankind and our Merciful Father.

We must humble ourselves. Humility is important during this appointed time and also in our life in general. True humility is demonstrated and activated as we remember that this restoration of relationship comes only by accepting Yeshua into our hearts. Humility is present when we make Him ruler over our lives as our Lord and Savior. True humility is made evident when we recognize what He has done for us. We must acknowledge and not deny that it was all because of the sacrifice of His life, which required the shedding of His blood.

Prophetically, this day is in recognition of the Atonement of Christ, which is the blood He shed for us as a full payment for the wages of our sins, saving us from adversity and the judgment of death; and thus, giving us allowance to receive God’s mercy and forgiveness to be one with Him. It is the reconciliation of God and mankind through Jesus Christ, Yeshua, the Messiah, the Perfect and Ultimate Sacrifice as the Lamb of God. This day also recognizes the prophetic event of the return of the Messiah, the Day of Judgment, and the day Israel will be gathered back to the Messiah.

Thank you, Yeshua, for the blood You shed for us in atonement for our sins once and for all. Your sacrifice will forever be remembered! Your judgments are just, your mercy is great, and Your unfailing love is everlasting. Be glorified, King Jesus!!! One day You shall return for Your Bride that is without spot, wrinkle or blemish. Help us all to live a life of true repentance!
