The biblical meaning of “8” is “new beginning.” Now is your time to step into your new beginning…which comes from staying connected to the One who cleanses and makes all things new, Jesus Christ!

In the bible, we can see the first reference of the number EIGHT in the book of Genesis chapter six (Noah’s Ark). This is when God decided to destroy all living things with a flood due to the high level of sin and wickedness within the hearts of man. God used EIGHT people to restart the new civilization by protecting, preserving, and providing for them on the ark that God directed Noah to build. By His grace and mercy, He preserved these EIGHT chosen people, along with the animals of the earth, both male and female, as a remnant to begin the work of multiplying within the earth again. The EIGHT people included, Noah, his wife, his three sons (Ham, Shem, and Japheth), and their wives to repopulate the world.

We also see EIGHT represented in the Covenant of Circumcision that God made with Abraham found in the book of Genesis. God required males to be circumcised when they were EIGHT days old to be a sign of the covenant He made with Abraham, which also marks a new beginning through the spilling of blood in circumcision.

“You are to undergo circumcision, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and you.  For the generations to come every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised, including those born in your household or bought with money from a foreigner—those who are not your offspring.”

Genesis 17:11-12

We also see EIGHT in the New Testament after Jesus resurrected, which was a time of new beginnings. He appeared in His resurrected body EIGHT times before ascending to the Father in Heaven. There were also EIGHT beatitudes in Matthew 5:1-12 which speaks of the blessings of God through their faith in Jesus. Anyone who accepts Jesus has received a new beginning spiritually.

We can also see EIGHT men collectively authored the books of the New Testament. These men were: Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Peter, Jude, Paul, and James. The New Testament is exactly what it is…new beginnings to what was in the Old Testament.

Also, the EIGHTH chapter of the book of Hebrews, refers to new beginnings through the new covenant fulfilled by Jesus, who is the Ultimate Sacrifice, making the law of Moses obsolete. This was fulfilled and completed through the shedding of the blood of Jesus on the cross, which gave mankind the ability to be new creatures, with new natures in Him. This new nature comes by the power of the Holy Spirit and through the circumcision of the heart made possible by the shedding of Jesus as the Lamb of God, who was slain for our sins.

In all, we see the number EIGHT is extremely relevant in the Word of God, proving to us the connection to new beginnings. Jesus has given us the ability to start a new if we accept Him and believe that He shed His blood to redeem us!

If you haven’t accepted Jesus already, I pray that you do. Life is so much better, when He is in it. If you already have Jesus, I pray that your life will be refreshed and renewed daily through His Word. God bless you!
